• Travel Tips : Going Solo

Planning on your first trip solo? or maybe you just wanted to take some time out for yourself to rediscover and all that jazz? Well before you panic and think that your going to be the only one on your own, your not. Honestly figures wise I have no idea but I’m certain that there are more solo travellers out there than couples or groups. I think the main reason we all travel alone at some point in our lives is to reconnect with what I call the “lost” feeling. We all, yes people of all ages get to some point in their live’s where we feel like we need an escape from our reality, a change of careers, lovers and friends might help but ultimately you feel trapped in your world and the only way out seems to be to travel. Am I wrong?

Travel opens so much to a person that when they are finished, it’s still the same person but a whole mass has changed within them, you just can’t point it out. I spoke with a friend when I got back from traveling and he said that people see you as a different person but they will never understand the depth to which you have changed and thats so true! There’s so much to travelling that I can go on and on for days but the point is no-one can really tell you whats going to happen on your journey because at the end of the day it’s your journey! What we can do is help guide you when times get tough and sometimes advice is the best option when you don’t have people to turn to.
I love making lists as you can tell from my previous posts, but this one is little different. Sure, theres a few things you should take with you if your traveling alone but it’s mostly from what I’ve learnt from traveling solo that really connects me to this post.

    •  Don’t Panic. There are many things in life that will scare you I am positive of that but what I don’t think would be a good idea is to freak out about the little things, like making friends. You have to embrace your journey and know that there will be bumps on the road but thats part of your story. Panicking creates fear, fear corrodes the mind so allow free thinking and a positive attitude at all times. Friends will come and go because thats the way travelling works, if your lucky enough to meet someone as the same path as you, don’t be scared just go with the flow. Remember you can always leave if it’s not for you. Your not trapped forever.

    • Common Sense. Travelling is meant to be fun, it’s meant to build character and all of that crap. But you need to make sure you don’t loose your common sense when you drink that 17th mojito. Be cautions because unfortunately we live in a world were even the tigers get killed in the jungle so know your limits and don’t always trust the guy that says one thing with a killer smile, but means another.

    • Be Prepared. The last thing you want is to be having the most amazing time but then realisation kicked in and you forgot the simple things like a razor or even a towel. When I came to Italy I realised that I was so nervous I forgot to pack the most simplest things because all I could think about was my solo trip. Which leads me to my next bullet point…..

    • WRITE LISTS. Oh my, I love this more than the trip itself…. well not quite but I do love lists. They create so much wonder and clarity for your life especially when packing. If your trip includes tours and lots of flying your best carrying a tiny ass notebook and writing your lists as you go along. Nothing is worse than forgetting your favourite pair of levi shorts, am I right?

This is a wonderful post Tilly, and just about traveling to new destinations but about traveling through life in general.

That’s amazing, people just don’t see who you are anymore even your closest friends. I will check out your blog too, thanks for reading ☺️

my closest friends even family can’t believe how much I’ve changed…Yes I’m still the same guy I’ve always been but I just see everything so differently – In my first few blogs I wrote about how your perspective of life and everything in it changes once you get out there and see it, whereas your friends still see the world as they always have – we travelers are a rare breed 😀 – I’m sure if you do read my posts you’ll find a lot of similarities.
